TAMILEELAM Challenge Cup - 2009

The event was coordinated by CTYA with full support from its members, who acknowledged the importance of such an event from the very beginning and assisted in all the phases of the event.

Being the well-awaited event that it was, the TAMILEELAM Challenge Cup was attended by hundreds of soccer fans who showed their support throughout the entire event, continuously cheering for and encouraging the soccer teams.

The TAMILEELAM Challenge Cup Soccer Tournament served as an event to unite the Tamil Youth through athletics. This event brought together 35 soccer teams, hundreds of soccer fans, sponsors, and members from the non-Tamil community, all of whom shared a common interest.

Soccer tournaments were held for soccer teams in the age groups under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16, and for open men. The commitment that the young Tamils had for the soccer sport was revealed in the intense competition that took place between all the competing teams.

TAMILEELAM Challenge Cup trophies for Most Valuable Player, Best Defence and Best Goalie in each age group were named after the national symbols of Tamileelam, to honour the Tamileelam symbols and keep them fresh in the minds of the younger generation. The Most Valuable Player trophy was named after the Tamileelam national animal, the siruthai, The Best Defence Trophy was named after the Tamileelam national bird, the Chenpagam, and The Best Goalie Trophy was named after the Tamileelam national tree, the vaahai.

The TAMILEELAM Challenge Cup Soccer Tournament, the first event ever to be held in the name of the Tamil nation, would not have been possible without the tremendous support CTYA received from its members, volunteers, partners, and sponsors. CTYA thanks its members, volunteers, partners, and sponsors for serving as a backbone for this event, and awaits your continued support for upcoming initiatives.
